Polegate, Kent

Historical Description

Polegate, a hamlet in Hailsham parish, Sussex, with a junction station on the L.B. & S.C.R., 57 miles from London and 15 from Hastings. It has a post, money order, and telegraph office. For parish council purposes it forms a ward of Hailsham parish, and returns three members. The living is annexed to the vicarage of Hailsham, in the diocese of Chichester. The church is a building of Kentish rag in the Gothic style, erected in 1876.
