Idehill, Kent

Historical Description

Idehill, a hamlet and a chapelry in Kent. The hamlet lies 5¼ miles SW of Sevenoaks station on the L.C. & D.R., and 5 from S.E.R. station. It has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Sevenoaks, and commands a very fine view. The chapelry was constituted in 1852. Population of the ecclesiastical district, 865. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Canterbury; gross value, £190 with residence. Patron, the Rector of Sundridge. The old church was built about 1805, and a new one in the Decorated English style, with tower and spire, at an estimated cost of, £2380, was built in 1865. There is a mission room on Goathurst Common, and also Calvinist and Baptist chapels.
