Burbage, Derbyshire

Historical Description

Burbage, a parish in Hartington, Upper Quarter, Derbyshire, 1 mile S of Buxton, under which there is a post, money order, and telegraph (R.S.O.) office. There are some large quarries. Population of the ecclesiastical parish, 2635. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Southwell; gross value, £240 with residence, in the gift of the Duke of Devonshire. There are Wesleyan and Primitive Methodist chapels.
