Crockenhill, Kent

Historical Description

Crockenhill, an ecclesiastical parish formed from the civil parishes of Eynesford, St Mary-Cray, and Sutton at Hone, Kent, 1 mile from Swanley Junction on the L.C. & D.R., and 6½ miles ESE of Bromley. It has a post and money order office under Swanley Junction (S.O.); telegraph office, Swanley Junction. The chapelry was constituted in 1852. Population, 1785. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Canterbury; value, £295 with residence. Patron, the Archbishop of Canterbury. The church is in the Early English style. There are six almshouses.

The church of All Souls, erected in 1851, is an edifice of stone in the Early English style, consisting of chancel, nave, south porch and a western bell cot containing one bell: there are several stained memorial windows, and sittings for about 300 persons.
