Barham Court, Kent

Historical Description

Barham Court, a manor on the river Medway, near East Farleigh railway station, 4½ miles SW of Maidstone, Kent. It belonged to Reginald Fitzurse, the proprietor of Barnham manor in Bridge district in the time of A'Becket; continued with his descendants, the De Berhams, till the time of James I.; passed to successively the Botilers, the Bouveries, and Sir Charles Middleton, who was created Lord Barham; descended to Lord Barham's grandson, the Earl of Gainsborough; and is now the property of the Leigh family. The mansion on it is modern.
