St Peter, Jersey

Historical Description

Peter, St, a parish in Jersey, 4½ miles NW by W of St Helier. It contains the village of Beaumont, which has a post office under St Holier. Acreage, 2875; population, 2505. Much of the land is beautiful and romantic valley. Beaumont Hill commands a fine view over St Anbin's Bay. St Peter's Barracks were erected during the war with France, have been long unoccupied, and are visible at a great distance from the sea. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Winchester; gross value, £100 with residence. Patron, the Governor. The church has the loftiest spire in the island. There is an endowed school.
