Bere Forest, Hampshire

Historical Description

Bere Forest, an ancient royal hunting-ground in Hants, on the SE border of the county, 4¼ miles NNW of Havant. It was divided into two walks, east and west, and it contained about 16,000 acres. All has been enclosed, great part has been cleared and cultivated, and only 1417 acres are now under wood. The surface is comparatively level, yet presents some tine scenery., See WATERLOOVILLE.
