Tallentire or Tallantire, a small village and a township in Bridekirk parish, Cumberland, 2½ miles SE from Bull Gill station on the Maryport and Carlisle railway, and 4 NW by N of Cockermouth. It has a post office under Cockermouth; money order and telegraph office, Cockermouth. Acreage, 1992; population, 230. Tallentire Hall is the seat of the Browne family.
