Pirgo or Pyrgo, Essex
Historical Description
Pirgo or Pyrgo, a place in Havering-atte-Bower parish, Essex, 3½ miles N by E of Romford. The queens of England had anciently a palace here, and Jane, queen of Henry IV., died here. A modern mansion of brick and stone in the Classic style now occupies the site of the palace. It is surrounded by an extensive and beautiful park, and retains the ancient name.
