Durham, Old, Durham
Historical Description
Durham, Old, a hamlet in Shincliffe township, Durham, on the river Wear, three-fourths of a mile E of Durham city. It is the site of an ancient Saxon town, and stands opposite the Roman station Maiden Castle, where Roman altars have been found. It is the property of the Marquess of Londonderry.
