Carville, or Carr Ville, Durham

Historical Description

Carville, or Carr Ville, a village in Belmont parish, Durham, 2 miles NE of Durham. The extensive works of the Grange Iron Company, Limited, employing about 400 hands, are situated here. There are Wesleyan and Primitive Methodist chapels, and a reading-room and institute. It has a post office under Durham; money order and telegraph office, Gilesgate Moor.
