Arbury Hill, Durham

Historical Description

Arbury Hill, an eminence in Northamptonshire, between Staverton and Catesby. It is crowned by some ancient earthworks, and though it rises but 804 feet above the level of the sea, it has the local reputation of being " the highest ground in England." Archdeacon Newton, a township in Darlington parish, Durham, 3 miles NW of Darlington. It is chiefly the property of the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, who are lords of the manor. Acreage, 1063; population, 52.
