Shambles, Dorset

Historical Description

Shambles, a shoal off the coast of Dorsetshire, 3 miles E of Portland. It extends from E to W, is 2 miles long, has from 2 to 4 fathoms water, and raises the dangerous surf known as the Race of Portland.
