Grimes Ditch, Dorset

Historical Description

Grimes Ditch, an ancient earthwork in Wiltshire and Hants, extending from Gravelly south-eastward, in a winding course, past the confines of Dorset, toward Christchnrch. It is clearly traceable for about 6 miles, and it seems of such high antiquity as to have been regarded by the Saxons in the light of something old and mysterious.

Transcribed from The Comprehensive Gazetteer of England & Wales, 1894-5
