Historical Description
Herberts Isle or St Herberts Isle, an islet in Derwent Water, Cumberland, upon which are the remains of a ceH said to have been occupied by a hermit of the name of Herbert, who was a contemporary of St Cuthbert. Wordsworth writes:-" Though here the hermit numbered his last day, Far from St Cuthbert his beloved friend, Those holy men both died in the same hour."
