Ystradvelltey, Breconshire

Historical Description

Ystradvelltey, a parish in Brecknockshire, on the river Mellte and on the Julian Way, 5¼ miles NNE of Glyn Neath station on the Pontypool Road and Swansea branch of the G.W.R., and 11 NW of Merthyr Tydfil. Acreage, 19,237 of land and 118 of water; population, 594. Much of the land is high mountain. Craig-y-Dinas yields fine clay, and commands good views. The Mellte here runs partly underground, and it and other streams make fine falls. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of St David's; gross value, £240 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of St David's.
