Trefriw, Carnarvonshire
Historical Description
Trefriw, a village and a parish in Carnarvonshire. The village stands on the river Conway, 1½ mile NW of Llanrwst, with a station (Llanrwst and Trefriw) on the Bettws-y-Coed and Festiniog branch of The L. & N.W.R., and a post, money order, and telegraph office (R.S.O.) It is a pretty place, situated in the midst of charming scenery. The Conway is iiavigable for small vessels up to the village, where there is a quay for timber, slates, coal, &c. Some mineral springs, sulphurous and chalybeate, are about 1½ mile from the village. The parish comprises 1236 acres; population of the civil parish, 628; of the ecclesiastical, with Llanrhychwyn, 897. The living is a rectory, united with Llanrhychwyn, in the diocese of Bangor; gross value, £152 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Llandaff. The church is modern. The parish church of Llanrhychwyn is a very ancient edifice. There are Calvinistic Methodist and Congregational chapels.
