Stretton on Dunsmore, Warwickshire
Historical Description
Stretton-on-Dunsmore, a village and a parish in Warwickshire. The village lies on the Fosse Way and Dunsmore Heath, 2½ miles S of Brandon and Wolston station on tha L. & N.W.R., and 6½ SE of Coventry. It has a post and money order office under Rugby; telegraph office, Wolston. The parish includes the hamlet of Princethorpe. Acreage, 2989; population, 893. There is a parish council consisting of ten members and a chairman, Princethorpe having four members. The Duke of Buccleuch is lord of the manor. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Worcester; net value, £322 with residence. The church was erected in 1835. There was anciently a chantry, founded by Thomas de Wolverdynton in the reign of Edward III. See PRINCETHORPE.
