Sheldon, Warwickshire

Historical Description

Sheldon, a parish, with a village, in Warwickshire, 1½ mile SW of Marston Green station on the L. & N.W.R., 5 miles SW of Coleshill, and 6 SE of Birmingham. Post town, Birmingham; money order and telegraph office, Yardley. Acreage, 2619; population, 448. Sheldon Hall was formerly the seat of the Devereux family, and is now a farmhouse. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Worcester; gross value, £400 with residence. The church is ancient and was restored in 1867. There is a good public library.
