Whitchester, Northumberland

Historical Description

Whitchester, a township in Heddon-on-the Wall parish, Northumberland, 10 miles WNW of Newcastle, and 2 from Heddon-on-the Wall station on the N.E.R. Post town and money order office, Heddon-on-the Wall; telegraph office, Wylam (R.S.O.) Acreage, 817; population, 57. The township lies on the N side of the Roman wall, and was once of much more importance. Roman coins have been found.
