East and West Shaftoe, Northumberland
Historical Description
Shaftoe, East and West, two townships in Hartburn parish, Northumberland, 10 miles WSW of Morpeth. Acreage, 622 and 502; population, 23 and 13. Shaftoe Crags are a wildly picturesque range of rocks, supposed by some to have been a haunt of Druids, and are now a favourite resort of picnic parties. Lord Decies is lord of the manors.
