Historical Description

Yapton, a parish in Sussex. The parish lies 3½ miles SW of Arundel, and 2 miles from Barnham Junction on the L.B. & S.C.R. It has a post and money order office under Arundel; telegraph office, Barnham station. Acreage, 1791; population of the civil parish, 666; of the ecclesiastical, 731. There is a parish council consisting of nine members. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Chichester, with Ford annexed; net value, £245. Patron, the Bishop of Chichester. The church is mainly Early English, and there is a small Congregational chapel.
