Historical Description
Fairlight, a parish in Sussex, on the coast, about 2 miles from Ore station on the S.E.R., and 4 ENE of Hastings. which is the post town. Acreage, 2879 of land and 296 of foreshore and water; population, 478. Fairiight Glen is a picturesque, thickly-wooded glen, and has at its head the Dripping Well, overhung by a huge beech tree. This place is much frequented during the summer months by visitors from Hastings. Fairiight Down has an altitude of 599 feet, and commands a fine view both inland and along the coast. Fairiight Lodge, Fairiight Place, the Hall, and Woodcote are chief residences. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Chichester; gross value, £46 8. The church was rebuilt in 1845.
