Ewhurst, Sussex

Historical Description

Ewhurst, a village and a parish in Sussex. The village stands near the river Rother, 6 miles E by N of Robertsbridge station on the S.E.R., and 6¼ NE by N of Battle. It has a post and money order office under Dewhurst; telegraph office, Staplecross. The parish comprises 5419 acres; population of the civil parish, 1021; of the ecclesiastical, 1024. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Chichester; gross value, £607 with residence. Patron, King's College, Cambridge. The church is partly Early English, partly Decorated, and was restored in 1874. There is a Wesleyan chapel.
