Historical Description

Etchells or Stockport Etchells, a township in Stockport parish, Cheshire, near the river Mersey, 1 mile from Cheadle station on the L. & N.W.R. and Cheshire Lines railway, and 4 miles SW by W of Stockport. It is contained in the ecclesiastical parish of Gatley. Acreage, 1572; population, 1444. The Manchester Royal Lunatic Hospital is situated here.
