Chailey, Sussex
Historical Description
Chailey, a village and a parish in Sussex on the L.B. & S.C.R., 43 miles from London. There is a post, money order, and telegraph office under Cooksbridge, S.O. (Sussex). Acreage, 5939; population, 1333. On the green is the village reading-room. A market for fat stock is held every other Monday. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Chichester; value, £508 with residence. The church is Early English, and was thoroughly restored in 1878-79. In 1876 a chapel of ease was erected. The old workhouse was tranStrred in 1873 to East Chiltington. The Chailey Industrial School for boys is situated on. The North Common.
