Stoughton, Leicestershire

Historical Description

Stoughton, a small village, a township, and a chapelry, in Thurnby parish, Leicestershire, 3½ miles ESE of Leicester, and 2 S from Thnrnby station on the Leicester and Peterborough branch of the G.N.R. Post town, Leicester; money order office, Oadby; telegraph office, Leicester. Acreage, 1512; population, 118. The manor, with all the land, belongs to the Powys-Keck family. Stoughton Grange, the seat of the Powys-Keck family, is an ancient mansion standing in extensive grounds. An avenue of trees over half a mile in length leads to Stoughton church. The living is annexed to Thurnby. The church was rebuilt in 1866.
