Cold-Overton, a village and a parish in Leicestershire, at the boundary with Rutland, 3½ miles WNW of Oakham, which is the railway station, and with a post office under Oakham; money order office, Knossington; telegraph office, Somerby. Acreage, 1729; population, 110. Cold-Overton Hall belongs to the Frewen family. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough; value, £179 with residence. The church is an old Gothic building of stone, and has a tower and spire.

St. John the Baptist (parish church)
The church of St. John the Baptist is an ancient building of stone in the Gothic style, consisting of chancel, clerestoried nave of two bays, aisles, south porch and an embattled western tower, with pinnacles and spire, containing a clock and 3 bells, one of which is dated 1664: the church was reseated in 1889, the roof repaired in 1890 and renewed in 1897 with oak timber: the chancel was renovated and refurnished with a screen and stained east window in 1926 by James F. Montagu esq.: there are 120 sittings.
