Wragby, Lincolnshire
Historical Description
Wragby, a village and a parish in Lincolnshire. The village has a station on the G.N.R., 135 miles from London, and 11 ENE of Lincoln, with a post, money order, and telegraph office. It has a hotel, and fairs are held on 1 May and 28 and 29 Sept. The parish comprises 1580 acres; population of the civil parish, 546; of the ecclesiastical, with Panton, 696. There is a parish council of eight members and a chairman. The living is a vicarage, united with Panton, in the diocese of Lincoln; net value, £250 with residence. The present church was built in 1838 at a cost of £3500, and is a building of white brick in the Gothic style. The chancel of the old church still stands, and is used as a mortuary chapel. There are a Wesleyan chapel, an endowed school, and an almshonse for six clergy widows and six lay widows.
