Scotton, Lincolnshire
Historical Description
Scotton, a village, a township, and a parish in Lincolnshire. The township lies on the river Eau, 2 miles N of Northorpe station, and 2½ W of Kirton-in-Lindsey station, both on the main line of the M.S. & L.R. It has a post office under Lincoln; money order office, Scotter; telegraph office, Kirton Lindsey. The parish contains also part of the township of East Ferry, on the river Trent, which is noticed separately. Area of Scotton, 1849 acres; population, 219; of East Ferry, 483 acres; population, 133. Population of the ecclesiastical parish of Scotton-with-East Ferry, 337. The living is a rectory, with East Ferry chapelry, in the diocese of Lincoln; joint net value, £400 with residence. Patron, the Lord Chancellor. The church is a large building of stone in the Norman, Early English, and later styles, containing several ancient tombs and monuments. There are Wesleyan and Primitive Methodist chapels at Scotton.
