Historical Description
Langton-near-Horncastle, a parish in Lincolnshire, 1½ mile SW of Horncastle station on the G.N.R. Post town and money order and telegraph office, Horncastle. Acreage, 695; population, 86. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Lincoln; gross yearly value, £190 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Lincoln. The church, dedicated to St Margaret, is a small building of stone consisting of chancel and nave, with a wooden belfry. It was restored in 1891. The parish of Woodhall Spa was formed out of portions of Langton, Woodhall, St Margaret, Thornton, Thimbleby, Martin, and Roughton. There are two endowed almshouses for two poor women.
