Nether Pool, Cheshire

Historical Description

Pool, Nether, a township in Ellesmere Port ecclesiastical and Eastham civil parish, Cheshire, on the Mersey and the Manchester Ship Canal, 2 miles E of Little Sutton station on the Birkenhead railway, and 8 SSE of Birkenhead. Acreage, 467 of land and 2202 of water, of which 1868 are foreshore; population in 1891, 329, of whom 304 were in temporary huts engaged on the Manchester Ship Canal. Pool Hall is a Tudor mansion, was long the residence of the Pool family, and is now occupied as a farmhouse.
