Gateforth, West Riding of Yorkshire

Historical Description

Gateforth, a township in Brayton parish, in the W.R. Yorkshire, 1½ mile SSE of Hambleton railway station, and 4½ miles WSW of Selby. Post town and money order office, Selby; telegraph office, Hambleton. Acreage, 3752; population, 171. Gateforth Hall is the seat of H. Brooke Firman, Esq., lord of the manor and principal landowner. The living as a perpetual curacy in the diocese of York; net yearly value, £150 with residence. The church is modern.
