Darnhall or Dernhall, Cheshire

Historical Description

Darnhall or Dernhall, a township in Over parish, Cheshire, on an affluent of the river Weaver, 5¼ miles SW of Middlewich. It includes the village of Weaver. Acreage, 2709; population, 333. A Cistercian monastery, founded here in 1266, was translated to Vale Royal in 1277. The manor formerly belonged to the Earl of Chester, passed to the monastery, and subsequently to the Corbett family. Darnhall Hall is a fine red brick mansion.
