Teffont Evias, Wiltshire

Historical Description

Teffont Evias, a parish in Wiltshire, 1½ mile NW of Dinton station on the L. & S.W.R., and 6½ miles W of Wilton. It has a post office, of the name of Teffont, under Salisbury; money order and telegraph office, Dinton. Acreage, 749; population, 123. Two almshouses were built in 1886. There are stone quarries in this parish which were worked in the time of the Romans. The property is all in one estate, and belongs to the Fane de Salis family of Teffont Manor. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Salisbury; gross value, £170 with residence. The church is good.
