Historical Description
Hinton Parva or Little Hinton, a parish in Wiltshire, near the boundary of Berkshire and near the Ridge Way, 3 miles S of Shrivenham station on the G.W.R., and 5 E of Swindon. It has a post office under Shrivenham; money order and telegraph office, Shrivenham. Acreage, 2161; population of the civil parish, 273; of the ecclesiastical, 251. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol; value, £290 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Gloucester and Bristol. The church is partly Transition Norman and partly Decorated English. It was restored in 1861.

St. Swithun (parish church)
The church of St. Swithun is a plain but interesting structure of stone, consisting of chancel, nave of two bays, with clerestory, aisles, porch and a low western tower containing 4 bells: the nave is Early Norman, the chancel Decorated: the aisles, clerestory and porch are Late Perpendicular: the font bears a curious allegorical carving, which has never been fully explained: the oldest monument is dated 1630: the whole building was restored in 1860 at a cost of £650, and has 102 sittings.
