Liddiard Millicent, a village and a parish in Wilts. The village stands 2 miles S of Purton station on the G.W.R., and 3 NE by N of Wootton Bassett, and has a post office under Swindpn; money order and telegraph office, Purton. Acreage, 2339; population, 912. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol; net value, £405. Patron, Pembroke College, Oxford. The church is ancient, has a tower, and contains an old Norman font. In 1870 the building was well restored. There is a Primitive Methodist chapel.

All Saints (parish church)

The church of All Saints is an edifice in the Later English style, consisting of chancel, nave of six bays, south aisle, south porch, and a western tower, with pinnacles, containing 5 bells, which were rehung and recast in 1906: the nave was built in the reign of Henry VI.; the aisle, of a later date, is supposed to have been built by a family of the name of Russell, under a licence granted by the king to the De Clintons, who were then lords of the manor: in the church is a Norman font, and there are remains of a Norman stoup and of Lancet windows: the church was thoroughly repaired and re-pewed in 1841, 1842 and 1870, and has 250 sittings: in the churchyard is an ancient stone cross, with a modern top.
