Historical Description
Highway, a parish in Wilts, 4½ miles NE of Calne station on the G.W.R. Post town and money order and telegraph office, Calne. Acreage, 813. The living is a rectory, annexed to the vicarage of Bremhill, in the diocese of Salisbury; net value, £120. Patron, the Bishop of Salisbury. The church is small but interesting; the old rood screen has teen preserved.

Church of England
St. Peter (parish church)
The Church of St. Peter, rebuilt in 1867, at the sole expense of the late rector, Archdeacon Harris, is an edifice in the Early English style, from plans by W. Butterfield esq., architect: it consists of chancel, nave, south porch and a western turret with one bell: the old screen and wooden beam, an early Norman door remaining in the outer wall, and the font have been preserved; on Easter day, 1879, a stained window was placed in the east end, to the memory of the Hon. and Right Rev. Charles Amyand Harris D.D. late Bishop of Gibraltar, formerly archdeacon of Wilts and rector of this parish, who died 16 March, 1874: there are 100 sittings.
