Great Chalfield, Wiltshire
Historical Description
Chalfield, Great, a parish in Wilts, on an affluent of the river Avon, 1½ mile N of Holt Junction railway station, and 3 miles W of Melksham. It has a post office under Trow-bridge; money order and telegraph office, Holt. Population, 63. The manor belonged to the Tropenells, and passed to the Eyres; and the manor-house, built by the former, still stands, is surrounded by a moat, and forms a beautiful specimen of a mansion of the time of Edward IV. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Salisbury; net value, £114.

All Saints (parish church)
The church of All Saints, a small but ancient edifice of stone in the Early English style, consists of chancel, nave, west porch and a western tower containing one bell: a handsome stone screen separates the chancel from the nave, and the east window is stained: there are 50 sittings.
