Bradon Forest, Wiltshire

Historical Description

Bradon Forest, an ancient forest, once occupying the greater part of the N of Wilts. It was known to the Saxons as Braedene or Briadun, overrun by Ethelwold in 905, and held in the time of Henry IV. by Edmund of York. Bradon Pond in it, 4 miles E of Malmesbury, measures¾ of a mile by½, and is the largest sheet of water in the county.
