Fairfield, Westmorland
Historical Description
Fairfield, a mountain in Westmorland, between the basin of Ulleswater and that of Windermere. The ascent is made from Grasmere. Its summit is 2¼ miles SSE of the summit of Helvellyn, has an altitude of 2862 feet above sea-level, and commands extensive and beautiful views. Its southern declivity is a long, tumulated, broken ridge, descending to the vicinity of Ambleside, and projects, about midway between summit and skirt, into an abrupt secondary height called Nab Scar, commanding a brilliant view over the adjacent vales.
