Historical Description

Cliffe, Cliffe-by-Lewes, or St Thomas-at-Cliffe, a parish in Sussex, near the river Ouse and the L.B. & S.C.R., in the eastern vicinity of Lewes, which is the post town. Population, 1559. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Chichester; value, £200 with residence. Patron, theLord Chancellor. The church, dedicated to St Thomas A'Becket, is good.
