Surrey Canal, Surrey

Historical Description

Surrey Canal, a canal in the N of Surrey, entering from the Thames at Rotherhithe, and going on a level with one lock only, first southward to the W of Deptford, and thence westward to the termination at Camberwell. A branch canal extends from the main canal to Peckham near High Street, and there is a short branch within the premises of the Surrey Commercial Dock Company, which owns the canal. Total length of canal and branches 4 miles 6½ chains.
