Garrat, Surrey

Historical Description

Garrat, a hamlet in the north-western neighbourhood of Tooting, in Surrey, on the river Wandle, adjacent to the S.W.R., 2 miles S of Wandsworth. It has a post office. A mock election occurred here at each new parliament till 1796, and this gave rise to Foote's farce of the "Mayor of Garrat."
