Ranton Abbey or Ronton Abbey, Staffordshire

Historical Description

Ranton Abbey or Ronton Abbey, a place in Staffordshire, in the parish of Ranton. An Augustinian priory, a cell to Haughmond Abbey in Salop, was founded here in the time of Henry II. by Robert Fitz-Noel, and is now represented by the tower of the church. A modern mansion, called Ranton Abbey, the property of the Earl of Lichfield, Stands on the site of the priory.
