Upton Cressett, Shropshire

Historical Description

Upton Cressett, a parish in Salop, 4 miles W by S of Bridgnorth. Post town, Bridgnorth. Acreage, 1648; population, 61. Upton Hall, an Elizabethan mansion, was formerly the seat of the Cressett family, and is now a farmhouse. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Hereford; net value, £140. The church is Norman and Early English, and contains a chapel with tombs of the Cressett family.
