Preston on the Weald Moors, Shropshire

Historical Description

Preston-on-the Weald-Moors, a village and a parish in Salop, on the Shropshire Canal, 2 miles WNW of Donnington station on the L. & N.W.R., and 4 NE of Wellington. Post town, Wellington; money order and telegraph office, Donnington. Acreage of the civil parish, 990; population, 229; of the ecclesiastical, 233. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Lichfield; gross value, £140. The church was erected in 1739 and enlarged in 1853. Preston, Hospital for widows and children was founded in 1716 by Lady Herbert, and has an endowed income of £2197.
