Long Stanton, Shropshire

Historical Description

Stanton or Staunton, Long, a parish in Salop, 3 miles SE of Longville station on the G.W.R., and 7½ SSW of Much Wenlock. It has a post and money order office under Much Wenlock (R.S.O.); telegraph office, Much Wenlock. Acreage, 2725; population of the civil parish, 266; of the ecclesiastical, 256. There is a parish council consisting of five members. It contains the townships of Patton and Brockton. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Hereford; net value, £200 with residence. Patrons, the Dean and Chapter of Hereford. The church is ancient, and was restored in 1869-70. A reredos of Caen stone was erected in 1881, and the three bells were recast and rehung in 1893.
