Donington and Donington Wood, Shropshire

Historical Description

Donington and Donington Wood, a township and an ecclesiastical parish in Lilleshall parish, Salop, 3½ miles SW of Newport. There is a station on the L. & N.W.R., and a post, money order, and telegraph office under Newport. The ecclesiastical parish was constituted in 1851. Population, 1634. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Lich"field; gross value, £250 with residence. Patron, the Duke of Sutherland. The church is modern, and was erected by the Duke of Sutherland. There are Baptist and United Methodist chapels.
