Clunton, Shropshire

Historical Description

Clunton, a township in Clunbury parish, Salop, on the river Clun, 2 miles E by N of Clun. It has a post office "under Aston-on-Clun (R.S.O.); money order and telegraph office, Clun. There is a chapel of ease to the parish church of Clunbury, and a Primitive Methodist chapel.

Church of England

St. Mary

The church of St. Mary, built in 1871 as a chapel of ease to St. Swithun's, Clunbury, in place of a former church, which existed here up to the time of the Reformation, is an edifice of stone, consisting of chancel, nave, north porch and a western turret containing one bell: there are 80 sittings.

Methodist

Primitive Methodist Chapel

The Primitive Methodist chapel was erected in 1870, at a cost of £300, on a site given by Edward Williams, of this village.
